Why ?

There are many good reasons to create your birth plan:

  • Inform you about the process of childbirth and the options available to you. This is why we encourage you to follow our creation questionnaire, even if you do not intend to download it or attach it to your file.
  • Clarify your wishes regarding the course of your birth and the care you want (or not) for your baby.
  • Make the connection between your wishes and the imperatives of the care team. It's a great way to connect with the staff who will be with you during your delivery.
  • Show the staff who will accompany you that you are at well informed. This makes your exchanges more fluid and avoids misunderstandings.
  • Reassure you and strengthen your self-confidence on D-Day.

Open dialogue with the medical team

We quickly forget, under the weight of medical protocols, that childbirth is not an illness and that the said protocols are not inflexible either.

Likewise, we naturally tend to feel subordinate to the medical team. What a funny idea ! Never forget that YOU are the decision maker. The medical team is at your service and should normally do everything to enable you to make a free and informed decision. If it were necessary to even something other than a horizontal relationship, know that we are, we, patients, at the very top of the decision-making chain. We quickly forget it, and sometimes the nursing staff forget it too.

At each step, and unless otherwise indicated or in an emergency, you have the choice.

And the expression of this choice goes through your birth plan, because, in the heat of the moment, it is difficult to have sufficiently clear ideas to communicate clearly with the people who accompany you.

That being said, childbirth is, by nature, unpredictable. This birth plan will allow the healthcare team, to best adapt to your wishes depending on the situation, because, in the vast majority of cases, it is important to take care of you and your baby.

About Consent

The question of consent is, today more than ever, at the heart of feminist demands. This consent is all the more important when it concerns your health. In this area, any intervention on you or your baby requires your free and informed consent.

Informed, first of all, because the healthcare team has a duty to give reasons for its decisions. Free, then, because the decision is entirely yours from the moment you know the consequences of your choice and the health personnel have informed you.

As long as you are in full possession of your mental faculties and your discernment is not abolished, you are the sole decision maker of what can be done to you and your baby.

Our engagements

Even if helping to facilitate dialogue between the medical profession and future mothers through birth plans and the information we provide them already contributes in itself to enabling them to better exercise their consent, we also wish to concretely support initiatives aimed to improve the conditions, services and infrastructure related to the care of mothers and their babies.

For this reason, with each order placed on My Birth Plan, we have chosen to dedicate 1€ to financing the association SOS Préma & hospitalized babies.

SOS Préma & hospitalized babies

Because there is nothing sadder than a child born too early, we want to support them financially to help them achieve their goals.

SOS Prema & hospitalized babies helps children and their families by working with medical teams and by bringing the voice of families to public authorities to defend their rights. In particular, they obtained the extension of maternity leave for mothers of premature children in 2006, and specific paternity and childcare leave in the event of hospitalization of the newborn in 2019.

Of course, our contribution is very modest considering the mountains they have to raise, but as we say, "Small streams make big rivers"! By purchasing a birth plan on My Birth Plan, you are helping to improve the condition of premature children and that of their families who have to face particularly difficult ordeals.
